The Spirits

Capturing the Spirit of Missouri

In the 1840s, the Rasche family established their farm and small still site here where Black Shire sits today. The staff carries on their tradition of crafting spirits from local ingredients, with a focus on locally-grown grain aged in Missouri-made white oak casks.

There’s a lineup of core products, including:

  • Seasonal Gin: Winter Gin // American-style gin with blue juniper berries, nutmeg, clove and bitter orange peel. 350ml bottles. 50% ABV-100 PROOF

  • Bourbon // Straight bourbon whiskey aged over three years in brand new, #4 char, Missouri White oak barrels. 45% ABV-90 PROOF

  • Rye Whiskey // A High Rye aged three years in charred, Missouri oak. Relatable, mixable and sippable. A fine, versatile whiskey. 45% ABV-90 PROOF

  • Blackberry Whiskey // Corn whiskey with all-natural blackberry juice. Fun, distinct and slightly sweet. 40% ABV-80 PROOF

  • Stampede Blended Whiskey // A 50/50 blend of briefly aged, high corn whiskey and two-year aged, straight whiskey. Recognizable and enjoyable. 50% ABV-100 PROOF

  • American Gin // American-style gin, crafted with blue juniper berries and a proprietary blend of three additional botanicals. 40% ABV-80 PROOF

  • Vodka // A superior grain vodka; seven-times distilled and activated-charcoal filtered. Smooth, genuine spirit. 40% ABV-80 PROOF

The Story

Family Distilling

The Black Shire distiller, Derek LeRoy, comes from a fermenting family himself — he grew up in the cellars at Hermannhof Winery where his dad, Paul, has been the winemaker for over 40 years. Derek earned a degree in viticulture and applies his deep knowledge and love of fermentation to the spirits he crafts today.

“At heart, I’m a winemaker, so I focus on building complex flavor during fermentation and allow aroma and flavor to be prominent in my finished spirits.”

— Derek LeRoy
